PROJECTS / MARINE BUILDING

The location of the Marine Building is at 355 Burrard, in down town Vancouver. The building was built in 1930 and the builders used terracotta tile cap stones on the roof deck parapet walls. Over the many years the tiles started to crack and leak, the simplest solution was to install cap flashing and have the flashing shed all the water. On all the top floor balconies and the main roof we installed prepatina copper cap flashing. To allow for proper breathing of the flashing and terra cotta tile there was also a drainage mat installed first that allowed air flow between the tile and flashing. The cap flashing was made in segments to imitate the terracotta tile joints underneath the cap flashing. Now today you are able to see the patinaed copper cap when you drive west bound on Hasting street, even with it being twenty two stories high in the Vancouver sky line.
